A quadrangular veteran’s cricket tournament was held at the Amanzimtoti Cricket ground.
This tournament was the first of its kind in South Africa and judging from the feedback received from all the players, it surely will not be the last!
Two provinces participated in the quadrangular, each providing two teams:
Dolphins
Dolphins Invites
Titans Red
Titans Green
The format was T20 and 8 matches in total were played including two finals, bronze and a gold final with the Dolphins Invites beating the Titans Red team by 6 wickets to win bronze and the Dolphins taking gold in the final against the Titans Green with a 68-run margin.
The player of the gold final as well as player of the tournament was D Anand, scoring 93 runs in the final and finishing with bowling figures of 3 overs, 1 maiden, 2 wickets and conceding only 6 runs. Deepak also scored 230 runs at an average of 57.5 in 4 games.
The best bowler of the tournament was Waseem Abbas taking 9 wickets at an average of 6.1 and an economy of 6.88, conceding only 55 runs in his 4 games.
Another noteworthy achievement was P Coetzer, who scored a magnificent *126 runs from only 63 balls in their opening encounter against the Dolphins Invites, scoring 14 boundaries and putting 9 over the ropes at a strike rate of 200.
The tournament was a roaring success and all hands are on deck for a follow-up tour, this time in Pretoria (Irene Cricket Club) in March 2025.
