A ‘cricket glutton’ by his own description, Grant Jansen is still playing first team for St Augustine, Veterans leagues for Western Province Cricket Club and Drakenstein Griffons, as well as social cricket for Claremont Gents.
Having started his cricketing career as a nine-year-old in Grassy Park, he went on to represent Victoria and St Augustine in the Cape Town club scene before a 15-year spell in Johannesburg playing for Marks Park, Zoo Lake and Johannesburg Cricket Club. He also had a short stint at Frocester Cricket Club in Gloucestershire in 2017.
Jansen made the Western Province Schools teams in 1988 and 1989, WP Under-21 and Gauteng B, but it is at Veterans level where he is really shining, having been named Best Bowler at the Africa Quadrangular Over-50s tournament held in Pretoria late last year. He will be a key player if the Proteas are to go all the way.
