The Kimberley tournament will be dedicated to Des Schonegevel, fondly known as Uncle Des. Schonegevel played first class cricket for Griqualand West and Orange Free State and upon retiring became a prominent coach and administrator in Griqualand West/Northern Cape playing a pivotal role in the development of Yorkshire Cricket Club in Galeshewe. He was the first chairperson of Griqualand West Cricket after unity in 1991, playing a key role in unifying racially separate cricket organisations. He co-founded Desnics Planet Sport, a sporting goods business in Kimberley.
Northern Cape Veterans Chairman and tournament director, Rizwan Engelbrecht whose father played for Griqualand West, says that teams can expect true Griqualand West hospitality.
